A thing that is considered pleasing to the eyes or attractive to the looks
is often termed beautiful...
It’s also said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder because what looks
beautiful to one, may have a different look to another...
However, beauty is often a state of a mind, not really the eyes; and in
fact, we don't see with the eyes, rather we see with the mind and through the eyes; same reason why the eyes of a man who has lost his mind keeps seeing wrongly...The mind is the seat of perception and its state at
any point in time affects how one's senses responds physically...Therefore, the ability to recognize and distinguish between what is
beautiful and what is not, is often a function of the state of the on-looker's
mind, not just the eyes...
If beauty were only a matter of the eyes alone, then an insane man would still be able to tell what is beautiful and what is not, since he has only lost his mind but still has his eyes intact...Again, a married blind man can tell his wife is beautiful, not because he can see her but because his wife behaves like it and so he believes she is; Beauty to him is defined by the personality (the heart), not the person (the looks)...Beauty is defined more by how she speaks than by how she looks...Action speaks louder than words, but words speak louder than looks!
One's mind state as it regards to beauty is also predetermined by one's
belief and understanding of what true beauty means...For some, it may mean
outward physical qualities or attributes and for others it may go
beyond that; but certainly, it would be erroneous to consider beauty based
only by physical appearance, not recognizing the fact that nothing seen
physically is immune to fading out and that the natural law of diminishing
returns would have its course in due time...
True beauty is the state of a good heart...A beautiful look may attract the attention, but a beautiful heart will keep the
attention...A beautiful out-look may save one's face for a short time but a
beautiful heart will save one's name from shame for a life-time...The best
cosmetics could beautify the body but no cosmetic make-ups can beautify the ugly
heart...
Outward beauty can be deceptive, it is temporary and built on that which is
seen but an inward beauty is built on strong godly character and virtue, that
which is permanent and often unseen...
It is vain to labour more in beautifying the outward while the inward is
out of order...True beauty is inside out, not outside in...Just one word spoken
carelessly or one action taken needlessly can render an outward beauty
immaterial and of no use, just as an inward true beauty of the heart can
conceal the imperfections of the outward...
Beauty is actually not in the eyes of the beholder, but in the belief of the
beholder...The changes overtime in the definition of what is beautiful and what is not are only as a result in the changes in belief systems, not really because the physical eyes have changed...When the mind has been infected, its expected that the eyes will in turn be affected also... What should look wrong suddenly starts to look right to the eyes when the mind has been deceived to believe that what is actually wrong is right... Half-naked dresses never looked good on anyone or to anyone's eyes, until many minds were made to believe that half-naked is beautiful...
It does not look beautiful because you see it is, rather it looks beautiful because you think it is; as long as the thinking is wrong, the seeing cannot be right!
Your perception of beauty is not controlled by your eyes but by your mind; Your eyes does not see it as beautiful until your mind has been made to believe it is!
Set your thinking right by understanding what true beauty is according to God's Word (that which is of the heart), then you will define beauty rightly.
