Spirited Word - “Have You Heard?”

The expression above is often associated with conversations in everyday life; which may be in the form of information, education or sometimes gossip. However, one never really knows the value of the ears and hearing, until one tries finding that out from a deaf man. Consider this! Who is in a better position of the two; a blind man who cannot see but has heard about a solution to his blindness, or a deaf man who can see but has never heard about a long-existing solution to his deafness?
The solution to a problem actually begins with the ears, not the eyes; as it is impossible to doubt what is not first heard of, before further action can be taken to see with the eyes. The ear is often the first place of information!
One may never really know the value of what has not been heard until one finds that one has been living for years in a world of ‘seeming’ impossibilities, suffering from the disease of ignorance, just because one never heard of the existence of the possibilities. It’s often said “In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!” but actually, “In the country of the blind, the ‘uninformed’ one-eyed man is worst of all!” and is a death-trap leader; the most-informed out of the completely blind would be the king in such case. The eye cannot see right when the ear keeps hearing wrong. The Word says “…And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Knowledge remains power, and the truth that is ‘known’ is what sets free, not the truth that is ‘seen’. Fact is; not really everyone that is looking equally is seeing equally. “The best looker is not always the best seer!” Seeing correctly is born out of knowing correctly. What and how the eye sees is often informed from what the ears have heard.
What is really your source of information? Who and what determines what and how you hear, and how you understand and respond to what you heard? Blind Bartimaeus only had hope of having his sight restored, when he first heard there was an able healer somewhere called Jesus Christ. The Word says “Faith comes by hearing…” Hearing is also a foundation for effective believing!
When one listens continually, one is not only being informed, but one is also being transformed gradually, to conform to what is being heard. Ever wondered why a normal young man would suddenly start speaking, behaving and acting like or atimes even starts resembling a popular music star that he admires greatly and spends most of his time listening to? Yes! It’s not really just about the sweetness of the songs’ rhythms in his ears; it’s also about the songs’ lyrics which carries in it the artiste’s nature and personality; and through continuous hearing of the songs, the young man’s mind and thoughts are being trained to conform to that of the artiste subconsciously. Then gradually, from his mind to his body; his thoughts grow into words, words grow into actions and from actions, a different person with a different personality and mentality is born; Just like the nature of God, will also rub off on a man who spends most of his time listening to God’s words in one form or another; with the expressions visible in his speech and actions.
Never underestimate the ability of what is heard to totally redirect a man’s thought-patterns, mind-state and consequently his entire life. Many hear what everyone else hears, then ‘choose’ to understand it how everyone else understands it and then unconsciously they start believing it how everyone else believes it, then they end up living how everyone else is living, and of course, getting the same ‘public’ or ‘popular’ results. A crowd-following mentality often begins with a crowd-understanding mentality! When you think the way ‘they’ think, you can’t but also do the way ‘they’ do.
Everything around us speaks! The media, friends, family; all seeking to be heard and direct our lives; but our acceptance of any one is always by ‘choice’. A young lady who had heard and ‘chose’ to believe, that all men are cheats; would make a statement like the one I once heard from a lady, who said “all men are the same and the best way to keep the peace, is to never think or care about what he does outside, as long as he brings no lady into her matrimonial home.” Such is what a wrong or improper information and following the crowd-mentality can cause!
The generally accepted world-system should never be made the standard for your life, especially not for a true believer in God. God’s Word should be and keep being what would determine how we understand and interpret whatever we hear around us. The question should always be ‘What did God say about this?’ and not ‘What do they say about this?’ Living by what ‘they’ said will only get you ‘their’ kind of result, but living by faith in what God said will guarantee you God’s kind of result.
You may not always be responsible for what you hear, but you are fully responsible for how you ‘choose’ to understand what you heard, and how you respond to what you heard. The final word concerning every matters of life can only be found in God’s Word of truth, and the only path to true freedom is in the knowledge of that Word!
Please, choose to hear God and not ‘them’!

Nice day friends!
